"A couple of days ago, we mentioned that the Security Rollup Update for Windows XP SP1 would be delayed due to an unforeseen problem with a DLL file relating to DirectX, which has put an updated version of the security rollup into the beta testing cycle again (available to Windows Update V4 Beta Testers). Since then, 3 new risks have been identified and these fixes will be integrated into the rollup in order to cover subsequent variants of MSBlast, the DirectX issues and one relating to the NetBIOS/memory read issues. The current update rollup released on Wednesday already includes two of the three fixes, with the third to be added as low priority when released to the web. We could be looking at three weeks from now before this is RTW.
News has also surfaced that Service Pack 2 for Windows XP will be released earlier than expected, it has been moved in schedule - tentative for March-April RTW. The Windows Service Pack Road Map hasn't been updated to reflect this, but it does mention the mid-2004 date as being an estimate. There is also the possibility that an interim SP2 will be issued to OEMs in Nov/Dec as an installer patch for Christmas Retail Systems. It is currently in build phase, but incomplete as yet, so no promises but it is in the pipeline so there might be something available before the end of year to end users"
