Borland Takes Wraps Off Significant Update To Java IDE

"Borland Software on Tuesday unveiled an upgrade to JBuilder that one company executive called the most significant update to the cross-platform Java IDE in two years.

Taking a page out of Apple's playbook, Borland called the new version of the product JBuilder X. The branding reflects Mac OS X, the next-generation, Unix-based operating system that Apple launched in 2001.

Bill Pataky, director of product management and marketing for Java solutions at Borland, called the branding 'symbolic.' Acknowledging the nod to Apple's branding, Pataky said JBuilder X is the first to support Apple's Mac OS X, now that it supports J2SE 1.4, the latest version of the Java runtime for the desktop. JBuilder X also represents a milestone for Borland: It's the tenth major update to the IDE, which was introduced in 1997."
