"Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 is a strategic solution for addressing information technology (IT) and business issues in the software management of Windows-based desktops, laptops, and servers. A number of new features in SMS 2003 enable corporations to become more focused on reducing IT costs while providing a comprehensive solution that addresses and resolves enterprise change and configuration needs.
It is still unclear when exactly SMS 2003 will be released to manufacturing. In late August Bob Muglia, Senior VP of Microsoft's Enterprise Storage and Management division, disclosed it would be released sometime this month [October], however, since then numerous news sites have also reported a November time frame. In addition, one of our users reports that Microsoft has internally set the date for October 16th.
